Rangers defeated the Rays 5-4. Kyle Gibson had a strong outing in his first start since his groin injury. Gibson had 5 strikeouts and allowed 5 hits through 5.1 innings. Rangers ended their 9 game losing streak with this win. They improve their home record to 14-13. Rangers have played very well at home this year. Rookie sensation Adolis García added another RBI to his count and is now tied for 6th in RBIs in MLB this year. Kyle Gibson is now 4-0. Josh Fleming took the loss for the Rays and his record falls to 5-4. He gave up 10 hits and 5 earned runs in 7 innings. Rangers now lead the season series between the 2 4-1.
After Garcia’s RBI in the 3rd Rangers tacked on 3 more runs in the 4th inning with Lowe getting a RBI single followed by Culberson squeeze bunt and then Calhoun singled in Nick Solak to bring the lead to 4-0. Joey Gallo got his 10th home run in the 5th inning to bring the lead to 5-0. Rays clawed back in the 8th inning with Brandon Lowe getting a 2 run homer to cut into the lead. And then Ian Kennedy survived in the 9th inning after Phillips brought in another 2 runs on a single. This was Kennedy’s 12th save of the season. This was just the Ray’s 4th loss in the last 21 games. They currently have the best record in the American League. Rangers still have 2 more games vs the Rays with Kolby Allard and Dane Dunning pitching.
