Some exciting news coming from Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic, “ Yankees talking to Rangers about a trade for outfielder Delino DeShields Jr, sources tell The Athletic.” This trade doesn’t bode well for Aaron Hicks and his possible short term return because if we’re going after an OF’er right now that won’t cost a lot means we need an immediate replacement. DeShields was picked with the 8th pick in the 2010 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros and he really hasn’t panned out well, a career .246 hitter that doesn’t have pop in the bat and really doesn’t do anything well besides play a good CF and have good speed on the base paths. Here’s what I think he brings to the table for the Bronx Bombers and what he doesn’t.
DeShields +’s
- Top 97% Spring Speed Percentile
- Top 97% Outs Above Average
- +6 DRS in OF
- .323 BABIP
- 18 SB per year
- Led the league in Sacrifice Hits (3x)
- Will be very cheap
DeShields -’s
- Career .246 hitter
- 18 Total HR since 2015
- SLG%
- Doesn’t hit the ball hard
- .284 Career WOBA
- .099 Career ISO
- Not Joey Gallo
