NBA Draft profiles: Evan Mobley, the defensive cyborg of Southern California

Family, High School & Recruiting

Born Evan Mobley on June 18th, 2001 in San Diego California to Eric and Nicol Mobley. Evan was born into a basketball family as his father was previously a professional basketball player so as expected Evan picked up the sport of basketball at an early age alongside his brother Isaiah. Although Evan was reluctant a bit at first to the sport, he later grew to love it the more he physically matured. Mobley played his high school basketball career at Rancho Christian School in Temecula California about an hour north of Mobley’s hometown of San Diego California. Throughout his high school career Mobley consistently remained as one of the top high school players in the country and won multiple honors including but not limited to, 2019 California Gatorade Player of the year, Morgan Wooten national player of the year, Jordan Brand Classic, and a McDonald’s All-American. These honors along with his ridiculous and obvious talents made him a 5-star recruit and a consensus top 5 player in his class. During the recruiting process Evan was highly recruited as you’d expect from any 5-star talent receiving offers from the following: Washington Huskies, UCLA Bruins, StanfordSan Diego State AztecsAlabama Crimson Tides, however, despite all these top-level programs calling him he decided to attend the University of Southern California (USC) and become a Trojan. Evan went on to later say it was in large part due to his brother who had committed USC a year prior that he chose to become a Trojan.
