The Knicks have shocked me more than Ben Askren taking a dive against Jake Paul. The Knicks defeated the Pelicans yesterday afternoon 122-112 in overtime in a thriller of a game. This was the second time RJ has faced Zion in the NBA, and it did not disappoint. After having a big lead in the first half, the Knicks (in typical Knicks fashion) blew it and had to play overtime against the Pelicans. With this win, the Knicks are now 31-27 and are riding a six game win streak and are now in 6th in the Eastern Conference, right behind the Celtics and Hawks.
On the Pelicans side of the ball, they played better than usual. Zion Williamson had an amazing game, putting up 34 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists in 42 minutes of play. Besides Zion, Brandon Ingram put up 19 points, Steven Adams had a double double with 10 points and 14 rebounds, Eric Bledsoe came out of nowhere with a 22 point performance, along with a all around great bench performance. For the Knicks, Julius Randle played 47 minutes, putting up 33 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds. Derrick Rose had another great game, scoring a much needed 23 points in 35 minutes, proving his bench role in the rotation. Reggie Bullock put up 15 points in 37 minutes, also hitting the dagger three-pointer to send it into overtime. RJ Barrett stepped it up, scoring 18 points in 36 minutes, getting out of his slump as of late. The Knicks held the Pels to only six three pointers, while we went 11/29 from beyond the arc. The only reason it was close was because of us allowing them to score 58 points in the paint, one of our biggest downfalls without a lead big man. All around good game for the Knicks, very proud that we won our sixth in a row and are now in good looks for the playoffs. We take on the Charlotte Hornets at 7:30 PM EST tomorrow in MSG, as always, go Knicks!!!
