After a disgusting 2020-21 campaign for the New York Jets there has to be a decision made at the quarterback position. The Jets have been looking for their franchise quarterback ever since Joe Namath, who won us Super Bowl III in 1969. All the QBs since then have been either misses or just weren’t surrounded with enough talent and/or broken. As many know, the NY Jets hired former 49ers DC Robert Saleh and he is a franchise changing hire. He will change the spirit in the locker and he’s the Anti-Gase. The name Gase meaning as in our former Head Coach Adam Gase, who is the one that has us in this QB predicament because he couldn’t develop Sam. However, the Jets have plenty of options at the QB position. They currently hold the #2 overall pick in the draft and could draft Justin Fields (OSU), Zach Wilson (BYU), or trade down and draft Trey Lance (NDSU). If they don’t want to draft a QB, they could continue to develop Sam who can be fixable. If they want to make an ABSOLUTE SPLASH, they can trade for disgruntled and very talented Houston Texans QB, Deshaun Watson. Lastly, there have been rumors about Robert Saleh bringing in Jimmy Garrapolo (49ers) on a trade, and maybe Dak from Dallas may hit the FA Market if he cannot agree to terms with the Cowboys. Those have been the popular rumors/options for the Jets. Let’s dig into Watson and Prescott:

Texans QB, Deshaun Watson:

Now, I don’t think there is a soul in the ENTIRE galaxy that think this would be a bad move for the Jets. That is unless you are a day in and day out Darnold Truther. I’m a fan of Sam but he isn’t our only option, I hope the rest of you would agree with that. As much as I’d love to keep him there is a better option in Deshaun Watson. Now, why are we even talking about Deshaun? If you haven’t already heard already, he is having issues with the Texans Organization. The issue stems from Owner Cal McNair. It was reported that McNair assured Watson he’d have a say in the next GM and HC, but that was not the outcome. The Texans hired Nick Caserio as their new GM and Watson wasn’t even told, he was actually still on vacation. Then, he came out and spoke his mind on Twitter and said that his angry rate is at a 10. He feels betrayed by the Texans and many sources say this relationship is beyond repair. Many also think he has an issue with the mentality of the organization. It is very “Patriots Way,” minded and Deshaun isn’t a fan of the “Patriot Way,” and he told McNair that. The Owner still didn’t care and hired a Patriots affiliate as their GM. Another issue may come from the previous owner Robert McNair (father of Cal) who said, “We can’t have the inmates running the prison.” during a meeting attended by NFL owners, player union representatives and team executives. He said this after players were kneeling to raise awareness of racial inequalities. It was a very ugly comment and it says a lot about the McNair family. Anyways, Deshaun has also requested a trade. However, during the Texans Press Conference new GM Nick Caserio said this on the matter, “And, you know, we have zero interest in trading the player.” Not only does this show that the Texans are reluctant on trading Deshaun but they called him “the player,” they didn’t even have the common decency or the intimacy to call him by his name. It shows a lot and Deshaun wants out. Now since he is a 25-year old franchise quarterback, that has a contract set to expire 2026 it will take a lot to trade for him. He has shown interest in a bunch of teams, but realistically nobody knows what Watson wants besides Watson himself. All we know is that he wants out, we just don’t know how badly he wants out. Another thing that I’d like to emphasize is that, trading for a 25 year old QB is NOT a win-now move! Back to how big the price for Watson will be, I was thinking a likely trade to send him to NY would be:

Listen one thing that we all need to remember is that to get a diamond, you need to pay a LOT and Deshaun is more valuable than a diamond. Watson is everything we need, he’ll attract free agents and possible disgruntled players to join us. He is coming off of the best year in his career, and he is the best QB the Texans have ever had. If he becomes a NY Jet, he’ll instantly become STATISTICALLY the best Jets QB EVER. Here were his 2020 stats:

Cowboys QB, Dak Prescott:

Now this right here, oh baby it’s interesting. The 2x Pro-Bowler, Dak Prescott might actually hit the market. He is coming off of a franchise tag that the Cowboys placed on him in the last offseason. He was getting paid big money but he did not get the longevity that he hoped for. He indeed does want to be Cowboy but the question is, does Jerry want him to be a Cowboy? Dak is coming off of a hideous compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. It is his first prominent injury that had sidelined him for a long time. Before the injury, he was putting up insane numbers game in and game out. The only issues were the running game and the defense. It got so bad that the defense couldn’t even stop a nose-bleed. It was that terrible. Now, many question if Dak is an elite QB or is he a great football player. In my opinion, he may not be an exact elite QB but he is an excellent player at the QB position. IF he continues to play like he did in those first 4 games before his injury then I would call him an Elite QB, but until then he’s an excellent player at the QB position. The Jets need a game changer and a franchise quarterback, they’ve been needing that for the last 50+ years since “Broadway” Joe Willy Namath knees gave up. I would welcome Dak to the Jets, but I wouldn’t do it for a ridiculous amount of money. Anything after $38M would be out of my price range for a player who is coming off of a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. I just couldn’t do it with all the uncertainty that is looming around him. Here were his 2019 and 2020 stats:
