The Knicks go into a Sunday night matchup trying to keep their playoff position against the 7-23 Timberwolves at home. The Knicks are coming off an 18 point loss to the Orlando Magic on Wednesday and are looking to bounce back with a huge win against the worst team record wise in the NBA. The Knicks are currently in the eighth seed with the Chicago Bulls closely following behind them, two games out of playoff contention. The Knicks are without star center Mitchell Robinson, who underwent surgery on fractured right hand, and will be out for the foreseeable future. Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards, coming off the greatest dunk of his career on Yuta Watanabe, and a fresh Karl-Anthony Towns. The Timberwolves are without star point guard D’Angelo Russell. They are also without small forward Jarrett Culver as well. Some keys for the New York Knicks to win are as follows: Contain KAT, Julius Randle, and don’t fall apart in the second half.
In the ten games Karl-Anthony Towns has played in, he has averaged 21.5 PPG and has been playing passionate basketball. If the Knicks can contain him with players such as Nerlens Noel, Obi Toppin, and Kevin Knox, this win will be much easier for the Knickerbockers. The Knicks All-Star forward Julius Randle is having a career year. Just two games ago he dropped 44 points in 40 minutes in a win over the Atlanta Hawks. He went 7/13 from the three point line as well as having 9 points from the charity stripe. If Julius Randle continues having the season he’s been having the Knicks won’t have a problem. The Knicks always give up halftime leads against easily beatable teams, something I expect to see against the awful T-Wolves. While the Knicks are putting up a league worst 103.5 PPG, they are also 4th in rebounds, another key to beating this team.
This could either be a blow-out win against an awful team, or a close game that we give up at the end. The way the Knicks have been playing going 5-5 in their last ten games, I could totally see this going either way, but I expect the Knicks to win by ten or more points.
