New York Giants: Top 5 2021 Free Agent Cornerbacks

It’s no secret that one of the New York Giants’ biggest weaknesses in 2020 was the Cornerback 2 position. Throughout the season the Giants played Russian roulette with the LCB position starting multiple different Corners. From Isaac Yiadom to Julian Love the position was a clear and obvious weakness and with the offseason now underway and Free agency a little over a month from now I am 100% sure the New York Football Giants will look to upgrade this position, and here are the top 5 options available.

1. William Jackson III (28 Years Old)

In 2020 William Jackson III had his best statistical year as an NFL pro putting up 11 pass breakups, 1 interception, and 43 total tackles. Per Spotrac.com Jackson’s market value is 3 years $18,000,000. An average of $6,300,000 yearly. Due to William’s production and overall skill, he is my #1 free agent corner.

2. Shaquill Griffin (25 Years Old)

Shaquill Griffin was an underrated Corner coming out of the University of Central Florida in 2017 managing to slip all the way top the 3rd round despite having ideal Cornerback 1 measurables and speed. However, 3 years later Shaquill has managed to make a pretty good career for himself, earning a pro bowl nod in 2019. Although Shaquill was a Pro Bowler less than 2 years ago, he has taken a huge step back in terms of production which has lowered his market value significantly. In 2020 Shaquill Griffin racked up 12 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, and 62 solo tackles.  Per Spotrac.com Griffin’s market value is 4 years $44,500,000. A yearly salary of just about $11,000,000 a year.

3. Richard Sherman (32 Years Old)

If this article were written 6 years or so ago, Richard Sherman would undoubtedly be #1 on my list, however, it wasn’t and Richard Sherman lands at #3. A physical yet extremely fundamentally sound in his prime, at one point you could make the case that Richard Sherman was the best defensive player in football let alone best corner. However, we are long removed from those days and Sherman has regressed drastically over the last few years and no longer is a capable Cornerback 1 in the NFL, nevertheless, Richard Sherman is still a capable Cornerback 2 in my eyes proving this by having a solid year last season despite an immensely injured San Francisco 49ers defense. During the 2020/21 campaign, Richard Sherman came up with 1 pass defended, 1 interception, and 17 total tackles in only 5 full games. Per Sportrac.com Sherman’s market value is 1 year $7,000,000.

4. Desmond King II (26 Years Old)

Now here’s a player I watched quite a bit in the past. Desmond King II a former Pro Bowler just over 3 years ago as a charger. Desmond plays with tenacity and constant energy. I’ve seldom seen him get caught sleeping on a play, he’s always hyper-focused and hyper-aware. King II has a great feel for the game of football and has clean mechanics. Despite being traded halfway through the season from the Los Angeles Chargers to the Tennessee Titans Desmond King racked up 2 passes defended, 0 interceptions, 2 sacks, and 50 total tackles. Per Spotrac.com King’s market value is 4 years $27,500,000. A yearly salary of $6,800,000.

5. Chidobe Awuzie (25 Years Old)

The fact that a Dallas Cowboys Defensive Back is featuring on this video just further showcases how weak this year’s Free Agency Cornerback class truly is. Despite this, Chidobe Awuzie is not a complete scrub in the slightest, and I’d go as far as saying he was the Dallas Cowboys’ best player in the secondary last year (That isn’t saying much though). In 2020 Chidobe produced a solid season considering what was around him winding up with 5 pass breakups, 1 interception, and 38 total tackles. Now the only question is, would Dave Gettleman and co be willing to sign a Cowgirls reject? Per Spotrac.com Awuzie’s market value is 4 years $32,000,000. A yearly salary of $8,500,000.
