I don’t think anybody thought we’d sweep the O’s, especially in a four-game series. I expected them to but didn’t think they would, however here we are. Just a reminder that Judge and Stanton come back sometime between this week and this weekend, and Gio Urshela comes back either today or tomorrow from the IL. All of a sudden, there are clear skies over the Yankee organization now. However, the job isn’t completed yet. We have a series coming against the Blue Jays, the two seed in the AL East that are .5 games up on us in the division. Let’s see what the Yankees did against the Orioles that made them win!

Game One (Friday DH 1, Gerrit Cole vs. Alex Cobb)

After rookie pitcher, Deivi Garcia, stopped the Yankees losing streak against the Blue Jays with a score 7-2, we need our $324M Ace to continue what the kid started, and Oh, did he deliver! Cole threw a shutout/complete game (7 IP, doubleheader), with 9 Ks, 2 H, and 1 BB. Not only did he give the bullpen a break, but he didn’t allow a run to be scored at all. What a monster game by our $324M Ace! That’s the Gerrit Cole the Yankees paid to see! In that game out offense got it going as well with homers from Brett Gardner and Kyle Higashioka. Tauchman also got it going with three singles. The Yankees won this one with a score of 6-0!

Game Two (Friday DH 2, Masahiro Tanaka vs. Keegan Akin)

This is game 2 of a doubleheader, and after playing a game just minutes before this one, this Yankee offense didn’t care. These boys kept their greatness up and had homer flying from all over the field! Not to mention Tanaka’s great game after getting out of a jam in the first inning. Tanaka continued the winning streak after putting up 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 Ks, and 0 BB. However, that’s all the Yankee offense need because they were rolling over the O’s in the first inning, with a lead of 4-1. Then, Voit went on to homer twice with two three-run HRs. Yankees swept the O’s on the doubleheader day.

Game Three (Jordan Montgomery vs. Dean Kremer)

Lately, Monty has been in quite the slump. Until today, he came out of the dugout with a great beginning. Monty put up 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 9 Ks, and 1 BB. He started with some nasty pitches and then regressed during the game, but the Yankee bullpen took care of him. However, the Yankee offense was tired, and this game went to extra innings. Then, in the bottom of the 10th, Luke Voit hit a sac fly to bring in DJ for a walkout sac fly! Yankees win this one, 2-1.

Game Four (Finale, J.A. Happ vs. John Means)

The Yankees need to win this one to stay in range of the Blue Jays. If they lose, they’d be 1.5 games back from the Jays. With Happ on the mound, there’s uncertainty but let’s push through. Happ delivered 5 IP, 5 H, 5 Ks, and 1 BB, which isn’t bad coming from him. The game was tied until GleyberDay was able to pinch-hit in the bottom of the 8th. Gleyber hit a 2 RBI double to give the Yanks the lead and win the game! The Yanks completed the sweep and won 3-1!

Takeaways going into the Blue Jays series:

1. We got some excellent pitchers: Cole, Tanaka, Monty, and Happ proved they could lead a four-game series and win it. It was impressive how they pitched, and no pitcher allowed more than one run. In the entire series, the Yankees allowed only three runs. Greatness, I tell you, greatness!
2. VOIT has VOIDED your LEAD: This guy Voit is the small name that puts the team on his back, especially when everyone was dropping like flies. He’s even playing through a foot injury. Voit is currently tied with Mike Trout and Nelson Cruz for the most HRs in baseball (16). The man is a contender for the AL MVP!
3. GleyberDAY is BACK BAY BAY: This kid is healthy and good! Gleyber started the year in a slump, but he’s been quite the player since returning from his injury. To win the series, he got a pinch-hit 2 RBI double! This kid is good, to whoever said he was trash, you are wrong! It may be those glasses he’s wearing now, but we’ll never know. Hehe.
4. Energized bullpen: With Cole and Tanaka giving the bullpen a break, they were ready to go for the weekend, but they didn’t have to pitch much, and with having an off day yesterday, the bullpen should be prepared to go for today.
5. Ford, Gardner, Wade, and Estrada are not everyday players: Yes, Gardner had a great series, but that doesn’t mean he’ll repeat it. The 37-year-old is taking valuable at-bats away from Miguel Andújar, who has been on a TEAR as of late! Ford has shown he isn’t good this year, the same with Estrada. Wade isn’t miles better, but he gets walks and puts wood on the ball, which Ford and Estrada haven’t ben able to do.
