Before I begin, these three games were the funnest game to watch. It honestly showed me we can win this division and win the championship. People may say the Red Sox are bad, but realistically they aren’t as bad as projected since the loss of Betts and all their primary pitchers. They still have J.D. Martinez, Rookie Verdugo, Devers, Bogaerts, and many more. Yet, they are no match for the Bronx Bombers.
Game 1 (Friday Night, Montgomery vs. Weber):
It all begins on a Friday night, Jordan Montgomery was on the mound for the NYY and Ryan Weber on the mound for the Sox. In his debut, Monty did great. He pitched 5.2 innings, 4 K’s, 1 ER, and 1 BB. Outstanding for his debut, and enough for the Yankees to win. His run was the only run scored, and Judge continued his home run streak. The Yanks ended up winning the game 5-1 in an easy one. No concern at all the Yanks look good going into game 2.
Game 2 (Saturday Night, Tanaka vs. Godley):
Now we are on FOX, a big-time Primetime game. Tanaka also makes his debut today after his horrific incident when he got hit with a line drive in the face. Here’s the clip:
That was horrific, but he tried to find his ways on Saturday Night, and he wasn’t awful. This was his stat line: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 K’s, and 1 BB. For a debut, returning from injury, this isn’t bad. But the big spotlights of the night were rookie Nick Nelson and Luis Avilan. This kid Nelson received the win and had 3 IP, 0 ER, 4 Ks, and 2 BB. Impressive for a young rookie. Next, is Avilan, I must say he took what Tanaka did and turned it around. It could’ve resulted in a run being scored, but it didn’t happen. Judge also kept his home run streak going. After he hit one, Urshela hit a grand slam. It was an excellent showing for this Yankee team.
Game Three (Paxton vs. Brice, Bullpen game for BOS):
This is the last game of this first series. And Paxton is on the mound, sadly. Paxton hasn’t been able to bounce back and doesn’t look good at all whatsoever. He has unfortunately continued his awful streak. It isn’t delightful knowing that we could’ve had Patrick Corbin instead. Paxton had 3.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, and 4 Ks. Dude, 3 RUNS IN 3 INNINGS?! Come on, man, let him go in free agency. Sign Stroman or Bauer, I can’t live with Paxton. We need him now, and he has failed us. I hope he can get his game on, but it’ll be unlikely. Michael King relieved him, and he did the best he can with 3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, and 4 Ks. He’s a rookie, so I’ll let it slide, but won’t let Paxton go easily because we could’ve had Corbin. But the way this game ended was beautiful. After the Bronx Bombers began the game with scoring five runs, but it wasn’t enough to get over Paxton’s awful appearance. Going into the 8th inning, the Sox had a 7-6 lead. DJ scored a run and tied it all up. Then with a runner on second, the Judge came into the box. And that was game, Judge hit a missile out of the park to break this game open and won it for us on Sunday Night Baseball. Matt Vasgersian says it better than me, here was his call on the game:
