After a couple days break, we are back at it with the next number in our series: the number 12. Here are the nominees from each team:
Josh Bailey (Islanders), Don Maloney (Rangers), Orlando Woolridge (Nets), Dick Barnett (Knicks), Steve Smith (Giants), Joe Namath (Jets), Ron Darling (Mets), Wade Boggs (Yankees)
Joe Namath is our selection here. Without a doubt the best QB, if not the best player in Jets History, Namath easily won the best number 12 in NY Sports History. Namath spent 11 of his 12 year career with the Jets, winning a Super Bowl, and Super Bowl MVP with Gang Green, led the NFL in passing yards in 3 separate years (1966, 1967, 1972), a Second-team All-Pro in 1972, and was a Pro Bowler in 1972. Additionally, Joe Namath was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985, and his number 12 has been retired by the Jets.
Honorable Mention: Wade Boggs
Wade Boggs is more known for his years with the Red Sox, but he played with the Yankees from 1993-1997, winning two Gold Gloves and two Silver Sluggers with the Yanks, and won his only World Series with the Yankees in 1996.
