Gregg Williams: Leader Of Men

Gregg “The Goat” Williams is the current NY Football Jets Defensive Coordinator. Gregg is arguably one of the top defensive coordinators right now in the NFL. He is known for his versatility as a coach. He runs both 3-4 and 4-3 defenses. His defenses’ are a QBs worst nightmare. Yet, Gregg is mostly known for his notorious bounty gate scandal in his time on the New Orlean Saints. He also did win a Super Bowl in his time in New Orleans. The bounty gate scandal made players like hitmen. The coaches would pay players an extra amount of money to injure targetted players on the other team. He was indefinitely suspended in March 2012 from the NFL. After a year, his suspension was dismissed, and he was able to return to football operations.

After Gregg’s suspension was lifted, he was hired by the St. Louis Rams. Then, he went from teams to teams such as the Tennesse Titans (2013), Los Angeles Rams (2014-16), and the Cleveland Browns in 2017-2018 originally as a defensive coordinator, but when Hue Jackson was fired he became the interim head coach and found some success with the Browns. Yet, the Browns hired Freddie Kitchens as their HC, and then, Williams found his way to the NY Football Jets.

So far, he has been here since 2019 and decided to stick around for another. In my opinion, Gregg Williams was one of the best things that occurred for the Jets last season. He turned a bunch no-names to a top defense in the NFL. He made players like Kyle Phillips and Nathan Shephard have a presence in the defense. He motivates players by challenging them. Like he told Jamal Adams that he wasn’t the best safety he ever coached. Gregg Williams is one of the only people in the NY Jet organization that hasn’t been a nuisance. For example, when it came to asking about Jamal Adams’ contract extension, he was with Jamal. According to Connor Hughes, Williams’ said he thinks the world of Jamal.

Slowly every day, Gregg Williams keeps gaining the trust of this NY Jet locker room. I decided to write an article on Gregg Williams because I feel like Gregg Williams isn’t appreciated a lot. He deserves more credit than he is given. He is truly the reason our defense succeeded so much last year. I can’t wait to see him coach C.J. Mosley for a full year, along with the rest of the great players on our team. This has been Jose Calderon III, with FiveBoroughDispatch; have a great day, everybody!
