5 Questions going into the 2020 NBA Draft (Early edition)

On October 15th, the NBA will hold the yearly NBA Draft where lives are changed and dreams come true. Every year the draft has numerous questions and what ifs after the draft. So today I’ll be talking about my 5 questions going into the 2020 NBA Draft. (These are not in order)

#1 Will the Knicks finally get there man?: The Knicks draft well usually but cannot maintain them for example, Kristaps Porzingis who ended up getting traded, Iman Shumpert ended up traded, Tim Hardaway Jr left. They just need the man to bring them to the promise land, Don’t give me shade for this but I just don’t think RJ Barrett will ever be a number 1 on a championship team but I could see him being a good number #2 or a number #3. Now who ideally would be the Knicks “man to get” in this draft, well here’s the simple answer LaMelo Ball. Will the Knicks get lucky in the draft lottery and get their star?

#2 What Players Draft Stock got hurt because of the Cancellation of the NCAA Tournament?: Well this is a question that is weird for some players, March Madness has made numerous players get their name on the draft board for example, Donte DiVincenzo, Kemba Walker, Stephen Curry, Buddy Hield, CJ McCollum, and a lot more current NBA players. March Madness can prove for the smaller schools top players that they can compete against the best for example last year Ja Morant showed why he was projected number #2 in the draft and not some guy that just dominated with lesser talent. So the talent that could sneak down into the 1st round because of March Madness will slip down to some lucky team in the 2nd round.

#3 What will the Warriors do?: The Warriors have won 3 of the last 5 NBA Finals and in the 2019-2020 they became the worst team in the league because KD left in Free Agency to the Nets (Not the Knicks lol) and Klay was out the whole season with a torn acl he tore in the NBA Finals and finally Steph Curry basically was out the whole season with a hand injury. But going into the 2020-2021 season the Warriors will have the best PG in the NBA healthy and a top 5 shooter of all time back in the same lineup as Draymond Green and a top 3 pick in this year’s draft. So in conclusion the Warriors will become a playoff contender again after 1 YEAR OF REBUILDING, and in the 2021 off season they have the money to sign Giannis to a max deal. Like what? If I was the Warriors front office I would take Wiseman if you end up with the 2nd or 3rd pick but if they get the 1st overall they could trade back to 3rd or 2nd to get something in return or that can just draft Anthony Edwards at number 1. Wiseman would change the way the Warriors run things and will possibly make them better than before the KD era even started.

#4 Who will be the Donovan Mitchell of this Draft?: Every year there will be a guy that gets drafted in the mid teens or early 20’s and will end up being one of the best players coming out of the draft like Donovan Mitchell, Brandon Clarke and Tyler Herro as of recently. So who will it be this year, well I think it will be RJ Hampton because the kid was ranked 5th in the top 100 for the class of 2019 and had offers from Duke and Kentucky but he decided to go play in Australia where he got out shined by LaMelo Ball. And maybe RJ dropped in the mock drafts because of his hip injury or because they didn’t see enough in him but I think he can easily be the steal of the draft.

#5 Who Will Make an Immediate Impact?: Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Zion Williamson, Ja Morant. What do all these guys have in common? Well they all made an immediate impact in the NBA and changed their franchises around in under 2 years. Luka is averaging a near triple double and helping his team become a playoff contender. Trae Young has given Atlanta a platform to rebuild off of. Zion has changed the culture in New Orleans and has made them not a joke in the south. And Ja Morant has made the Grizzlies a playoff team after finishing with one of the worst records in the 2018-2019 campaign. So who will do what those guys did in this up and coming draft. Well I’ve give you 4 guys, LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman, and Killian Hayes. ‘’Wow Matt what a surprise you chose guys you’ve already wrote about, stop repeating yourself !” Well Karen I actually think that those 4 guys are the most NBA ready as of June 14th. LaMelo has played on numerous professional teams already and has shown dominance, Anthony Edwards has shown his athletic ability and can dunk on you at any moment, Wiseman is a 7’1 C that can shoot, rebound, block shots, finish at the rim. And last but definitely not least Killian Hayes playing overseas has shown a lot of advanced abilities that will translate to the NBA like his unmatched vision of the court and his ability to make his teammates look like all stars. We will just have to wait and see.
