NJ Devils First-Round Draft Pick Grades (2014-2019)

Due to Covid-19 the New Jersey Devils along with the rest of the NHL teams’ seasons have been suspended. The NHL is trying come with multiple ways to bring entertainment toward the NHL. One of those ideas include holding the draft in June, even with the season still going on. Here were going to look back at the Devils first-round draft picks in the last 5 years (2014-2019) and grade their picks. 

2019: 1st overall: Jack Hughes, left wing, age:19 

GP G A PTS +/- PIM 
61 14 21 -26 10 

Grade: A 

2018: 17th overall: Ty Smith, age:20 

GP G A PTS +/- PIM 

Grade: B, has yet to play but still has a ton of upside and is only 20. 

2017: 1st overall: Nico Hischier, center, age:21 

GP G A PTS +/- PIM 
209 51 84 135 -6 62 

Grade: A+ 

2016: 12th overall: Michael McLeod, center, age:22 

GP G A PTS +/- PIM 
33 -4 17 

Grade: D 

2015: 6th overall: Pavel Zacha, center, age:23 

GP G A PTS +/- PIM 
266 37 71 108 -34 78 

Grade: D+
