The New York Mets are a huge wild card for me this season. Just 5 years ago they were in the World Series. However, they never managed to return to a World Series contender they were once destined too. But the 2019 Mets season was nothing less than encouraging. With a bad first half of the season, most people thought the Mets were dead in the water. Most analysts projected the Mets to be sellers at the deadline. But they did not trade any key players and in fact, acquired a veteran pitcher in Marcus Stroman. After that move, the Mets caught fire and ended the season with an 86-76 record. Big accomplishment considering they were at one time 50-55.
The Mets have one of the most talented pitching rotations in the National League. They have a top 3 pitcher in the game in Jacob Degrom, who has won the last two “Cy Young Awards”. In the offseason, the Mets acquired the 2016 “Cy Young Award” winner in Rick Porcello and a 2015 all-star in Michael Wacha to go with at the time Noah Syndergaard and Marcus Stroman. I say at the time because Syndergaard just suffered a season-ending Tommy John surgery. This will be a big loss for the Mets. So that means a guy like Steven Matz will have to step up this year in the absence of Noah Syndergaard. The Mets were very lackluster in the bullpen last year.
Tell me what you guys think.
